Comparison to the mainland, renting or buying a house in Hawaii is more costly. For instance, renting a studio in Oahu will cost you US $800 to US $ 1,300 per month and the location where the studio is situated also matters. If the studio is situated in central location of the island, its cost is higher because of its location and facilities. Taking an apartment or a house-for-rent can cost you approximately US $1,500 a month. In that amount, the only inclusion is a two-bedroom apartment and the location would again affect the price. One of the most expensive resorts in Hawaii is Waikiki; where one-bedroom apartment costs around US $1,600 per month.
FOOD EXPENSES
Food cost multiplies the cost of living in Hawaii because 90 percent of the food in Hawaii is imported from outside; thus, makes the food cost go high. But you still can get food at low prices from large chain stores like Wal-Mart, Costco and Sam’s Club. Regular supermarkets also provide food at reasonable prices in the form of special sales. If you don’t want to put burden on your pockets then you should purchase those items which are on sale not what your stomach wants. Dining outside home is more expensive and cost so much from your pockets. As far as breakfast cost is concerned, you can have one for only US $5 to US $8 whereas lunch costs you US $6 to US $12 and dinner takes much more than both thus costs you around US $12 to US $30 or even more.
